Our story
A small studio
in South Austin
SoCo is short for South Congress, the stretch of Austin we call home. It's also where this whole thing started.
It began the way a lot of good things do: with too many beads and a free evening. Whitney made a bracelet for herself, then one for a friend, then a few more for people who kept asking where she got hers. Before long the kitchen table was a bead board, and the spare room was a studio.
We still work the same way. Each piece is laid out by hand, strung on strong stretch cord or knotted silk, and finished with gold-fill or brass hardware that will hold up to daily wear. We don't batch-produce, and we don't buy pre-made strands. If a stone doesn't look right next to its neighbor, it comes off and goes back in the tray.
What we use
Natural gemstone (amazonite, jasper, tiger's eye, moonstone, and whatever else catches our eye at the gem show), sandalwood and rosewood, and Czech glass. Every stone is a little different in color and pattern, so the piece you receive will be close to the photo but never identical to it. We think that's the best part.
Custom work
A good portion of what we make is one-off: a bracelet in someone's birthstone, a set for a wedding party, a necklace built around a stone a customer already had. If you have something in mind, send us a note. We'll talk it through and give you a price before anything gets strung.
